Earthquake Structure Research, Writing Across Pages, Diversity Lesson, and Book Clubs!

Mrs. Fornek did a lesson with the class about inclusion for those that may speak another language.
We started off by discovering how many different languages we speak at home with family or loved ones.

Then, we did an activity where we had to create groups (without talking) based on a sticker that we put on our cheek. We had to learn how to communicate without talking.

We discovered that if someone does not know/understand a language that we need to
try different strategies to help them understand and more importantly that we need to include them in our activities.

In science, we read about different structures and systems that are used in earthquake-resistant building designs. We will use this information next week as we design and
construct our our earthquake-resistant building.

After we read, we worked with our partner to develop a "Top 5" ideas to share out.
This helps us to do more than just read the text. We are working on remembering and sharing what we read in a meaningful way!

In writing, we worked on writing our story across pages.
We began several rough drafts this week.
On Thursday and Friday, we learned how to create a character with
internal and external character traits.

We will be doing more with our character and our story next week!

Book Clubs are rocking!

At the end of the week, we worked on summarizing each chapter.
This strategy helps us to comprehend what we are reading by putting the text in our own words.
We are using the structure "Somebody Wanted But So Then" to help us.
