Energy, Special Someone Day, and Kindness Rocks!

Congratulations to our latest student-selected kindness and grit award recipients!

We are so proud of you!

In science, we are learning how energy can move from one object to another.
We are working to understand the object(s) in the system and identifying the
forms of energy (heat, movement, sound, or light).

Special Someone Day is one of my favorite days of the year.
This year we read the story "One Word for Kids."

Each student then chose a word that meant something to him/her.

We wrote sentences explaining why that word was important, motivating, or inspiring for them.

On Special Someone Day, the kids then made bracelets with that special word.

On Halloween morning, the kids painted kindness rocks.
We wrote words of inspiration, made beautiful pictures, and colored the rocks in with our artistic ability,
One day this week, we placed some of our rocks at the front of Kipling.
We hope our kindness rocks pass on a little cheer to those who find them.

At the end of the day, our class has the opportunity to earn CYOA (Choose Your Own Adventure). The kids can play recess games, draw, do origami, and explore different games on Chromebooks.
We love when we earn CYOA!

October and November Photo Dump

Author's Chair-
We finished our first book!
Some students wrote poetry, from the perspective of an animal, about magic, about something that has happened to them. We loved having choice!

Be on the lookout for your books in your 4th grader's take home folder.
The books went home on Friday!

We worked on building our vocabulary with words that describe character traits.
We went on the lookout for evidence from our IDR (Individualized Daily Reading) books to find evidence to support.

We had our Shop with Mrs. C event at the Highland Park Jewel down the road.
We worked on rounding, multiplying, subtracting, and more!
Excellent job!

We helped out with Ms. Karasick's class in Mrs. Comitor's room for a fun pumpkin project.

Mrs. Thurman read a favorite story from the late Ms. Schippers called The Tailypo: A Ghost Story.

We are learning how to push our thinking as we read.
As we read, we are working on stopping and checking to make sure we understand what we read, making predictions, and visualizing. Today we took time to write long in our Reader Response Journals.
We are trying to incorporate these sentence starters to build on our thinking of the text.

Halloween Picture Fun!

We started our day by painting kindness rocks. We will take time this week to spread some kindness around Kipling.

We had an incredible author visit on Wednesday.
Be sure to check out the newsletter for information on how to order.
